Rino De Filippi - "Tema Amore" - Nazionalmusic- N1023 - Beautiful Allusive Filippi!!!

    Hello and happy new year!  I'm back from my Hiatus with a seldom heard or seen Rino De Filippi record, "Tema Amore" on the Nazionalmusic label best known for their Supermakert series and the Zelda 45 by Marcello Giombini.  This is the early Filippi style from 1972 so there aren't any synth or fuzz sounds but mainly a laidback beautiful landscape of wordless vocal, organ, acoustic guitar, drums, bass and harpsichord.  Melody is the driving force behind the songs even though Filippi's signature rhythm patterns are there as well, favorites for me have to be "Romantico Viale" with it's minor harpsichord intro straight into absolute beautiful chord structure.  Also "Giovane Amore" that takes you all over the place, as soon as you think you know where it's going, a killer chord steps in and sends you a different direction.  These recordings sound super raw but absoulutely high fidelity and could easily imagine them being recorded in a day or two but at the same time so much mastery is here it would take most groups 10 times longer to achieve.  Anyways it took me a very long time to even hear this record and I hope it gives at least some of you some joy!  As always My Rip From My Collection at 320K.  GET IT HERE!

Rino & Luigi De Filippi "Daybreak" RCA SP 10062 (1976) Full Rip In 320K

   Just VPI'd this record and re ripped it, thought I would share it in full this time!  Just one of my favorite records to listen to by Marcabru an alias for Luig De Filippi, son of Rino De Filippi.  This one is credited to Luigi solely on SIAE database but most likely done with his father Rino from the sounds of it.  You really can listen to this from start to finish and oh god let me tell you it is rare and pretty impossible to find.  It has that proggy jazz feel that the Filippis  utilize on most of their beat driven records like the wildcat and pound release.  First we start with the title track "Daybreak" just amazing and beautiful mid tempo awesomeness, crazy melodys abound.  Next we get, "Gleaming" with that up tempo jazz funk sound ever so popular in the mid late 70's, with just the right amount of synth coming in half way through.  "Hermitage" comes off right away sounding like a sophisticated yes.  Next we get the banger "Fancy" just perfection, cray bassline and sax solo with that flat and perfect Filippi drum sound, AHHH, so good!  "Consortship" sounds like Filippi totally going for a yes melody and one of the most Filippi sounding songs on the record, totally essential good vibes.  Then the B side, man if you thought the A side was dope the B side is even better.  "Racer" is unbelievable melodic and proggy.  "Glide" is golden funk"  "Afield" is back to that melodic Filippi good vibes style.  "Loose" is by far my favorite jam on here, and perhaps top 5 Filippi jams, that crazy technical jazzy piano riff and the insane drumming, whoah.  Last song of note is, "Meek" the most chilled out and stony jam on here, shit, what were they smoking in Italy back then, damn?!  Just VPI'd this record and re ripped it, thought I would share it in full this time!  Enjoy  GET IT HERE!

Ector Davis (E.Ballotta) - "Evolution Now" Bentler Records BE 8701 Italian Instrumental Jazz,Funk,Prog!

    So I know this cover is screaming late 80's but it's actually instrumental, late 70's amazing jazz, funk, prog.  A few of the songs I swear could be Rino or Luigi De Filippi behind them, namely, "Lights Of Chinatown" & "Bentler Song".  Besides, "Lights Of Chinatown" side B is where it's at here, totally killer grooves and entertaining prog outings.  "Bentler Song" in particular really stands out to me, the moment around 1:35 where those girl vox come in, so amazing!
          This record is also released as The Volvo Dynamics which is very easily obtained for nice friendly prices currently.  This version on Bentler is pretty unknown and extremely rare,  so enjoy my rip at 320K.   Chris Tillotson                                   GET IT HERE!

 

Orchestra Giulio Libano - "I Musicals" - DVG STL 7306 - Devega -1972 Italian Holy Grail Library!

     This is one very amazing record from the Italian Library label, Devega.  From start to finish it is astonishing, along with Giulio Libano there are also songs by D.Haensch,Vanerden, Rino De Filippi, Fabio Fabor & Ipress.  Modern Sound Quartet member Massimo Verardi adds lead guitar to most of the tracks creating a nice cohesiveness to the entire thing.  Also the Alessandroni type scat vocals  bring everything together as well.
          While Side A is truly great with songs like Libano's, "Mach 48" and Filippi's "Sensazioni Primaverili", I feel side B is the best play through for me.  "Jai Alai" by Haensch,Vanerden is one of the dopest jams I've heard in a while, perfect chords, beats and guitar tone.  "Mandoleggiando" by Fabio Fabor has a killer psych guitar solo, gave me chills for sure!  Luckily you can buy this digitally from Itunes or Amazon for only $5.99 as well as other Devega records like the very sought after Joy Unlimited record as the Devega label has made them available for purchase.  I believe they call it Mach 48 on the digital release, so hope you can find it from google search.  Check the soundclips ripped from my own collection.  Chris

   

Marcabru (Rino & Luigi De Filippi) - Momenti- ORL 40012 Otter Records The most elusive De Filippi Holy Grail Library!

Updated, I had to go through and update my Marcabru posts because of the recent info me and my buds have uncovered that Luigi De Filippi does exist and that he is the son of Rino and they worked on records together.  The extent to who did what is up to you and your ears until I get the word from Luigi.  This record unlike Daybreak is credited to both, confused yet, haha.
   Now let's get to the music here, the record starts with, "Fiaccole Vive" which you know as "Splendida Luce" from Ritmicolor.  This is the original release of this track and as you know is proggy Filippi greatness with soaring synth and electric piano over incredible drumming.  The last track, "Spinta Ritmica" is actually the same song but with drums and percussion only, essential for break beat enthusiasts.  "Accensione" is a spinet and acoustic guitar driving song, with pumped up drums and brass in the traditional Filippi style.  Now track three, "Ricordo" is by E Zoffoli who you might recognize from the Sorgini, Monte Carlo record I  posted a while back and is dark prog with synth and drums, very awesome.  "Strade" you know as "Percorsi" from the Ritmicolor record and is amazing spinet prog funk.  "La Notte Guarda" is a beautiful piano and synth driven progger with drums, so good!  The hit song, "Stelle In Terra" is a weird bossa prog jam, that is perfectly melodic with that classic Filippi sound.  "Bagliori" is another one worth noting, sounds like it came right off the Daybreak record, perfect driving funk drums with piano, synth and organ throughout, awesome!   The other few jams are pretty good but get kinda goofy for my taste, all feature spinet and sound very Rino still.
  I called this the most elusive Rino De Filippi holy grail, I should say one of the most, when is the last time you saw "Temi Ritmici E Dinamici" or "Atmosphere" on Fonit  "for sale, shit they're all pretty elusive aren't they, haha.  The key being Holy Grail, which does not mean just rare, it means fantastic listening experience which I know is relative but if you're reading my blog you know I mean not drony experimental stuff or classical meanderings , I mean goosebump inducing beat driven music of a unique quality, not necessarily hip hop beats,  you know the stuff that sells for ridiculous prices, haha.  Though you can find goosebump inducing music for cheap, holy grail means it can potentially  take you years to find it, thus meaning it is fricken rare, not 5 copies for sale on discogs.  I feel that should be the generic meaning of Holy Grail and anything else should be classified as personal holy grail, but hey that is my perspective.  Anyways I have vented enough for one evening check out the soundclips  Enjoy from my personal collection, Chris
Update 1/25/15- Well me and some buddies have succeeded in contacting Luigi De Filippi from his website and it is confirmed he is indeed, Rino De Filippi's son!  He said he used the name Marcabru and worked with his father on library records.  I along with a couple other enthusiasts are trying to put together an interview with this man for the blog.  Stay tuned! Rino De Filippi "Ritmicolor" Pound Records PRL 17609 Filippi!

  So I finally got my hands on this ever elusive record, "Ritmicolor" and boy is it amazing.  It does share some songs with other Filippi releases, the main ones being Giardino Dei Miei Desideri & Meccanizzazione.  I would say the style is very similar to those releases.  "Luminosita" sounds a lot like a couple songs off Primavera but not exact. I'm missing a few of his records but maybe some more of these are off other LP's.  I simply cannot get enough RDF, it's as close as you can get to Alessandroni, which makes sense why they recorded together on occasion.  I could be wrong but I don't believe he scored any soundtracks, which is strange.  His library releases are so rare and sought after, just like Sorgini, Ducros, and Casa.  Let me talk a bit about the songs, "Splendida Luce" is such a weirdo jam, I've heard it plenty of times already and I still can't grasp what is going on.  It starts pop enough with it's pumped up bongo beats but then it just fades into Jazz Prog weirdome, so bad ass! Oh snaps, "Percosi" is such a beast, just listen to that bass tone, ahhh!  You also can't forget the signature, off timing melody stabs and those crazy drums.  So check out this motha from my personal collection and please excuse my enthusiasm, I've been drinking!  Chris Tillotson

Rino & Luigi De Filippi "Giardino Dei Miei Desideri" Wildcat 113 197? @320K

   So, for my first post of 2014, I present to you a very nice Rino & Luigi De Filippi album on the impossibly rare italian library label, Wildcat.  So if you don't know Luigi is Rino's son.  Filippi's album, Oriente Oggi was actually one of the first Italian records I ever heard and I've been maxed pumped on him ever since.   Just like Alessandroni, no matter how proggy the time signatures or ideas get, his melodic sense always remains constant.  The record starts off ridiculously strong with, "L'Erba Di Prima", which is one of the best Filippi songs I've ever heard, so gangsta!   Then we get 3 very beautiful jazzy piano driven songs before getting back to the beats.  "Phil Armonia" is just brilliant and "Scie Luminose" is about as tasteful as prog can get.  All in all just a very solid record from one of the most solid composers ever!  Also, if anyone can give me some info on Wildcat 115, as I know nothing about it and there seems to be no info on the net.  So enjoy this from my personal collection ripped @320K.  Happy New Year!  Chris Tillotson       GET IT HERE!

Braen's Machine (Alessandroni & De Filippi) "Temi Ritmici E Dinamici" Liuto 197? 320K

This is probably my favourite record i own, it's very special to me.  I downloaded this from somewhere a while back and totally fell in love with it. I searched. what seemed like forever and finally found it.  Braen's Machine on this album is a pseudonym for either Giolamo Ugolini or Alessandro Alessandroni and Awake(Rino De Filippi).  I feel like there was a bunch of controversy over who had a hand in these compositions but for me I have to go by my ears.  Yes Awake is only credited to the second half of this masterpiece but come on just listen to the odd timing harpsichord stabs, jazzy chord changes, you can't tell me Filippi didn't have a hand in side A.  Also Alessandroni is in my opinion (which ain't worth shit) also a main contributer, not only did they record numerous records together, including Underground  but this record is Braen's Machine, not Ugolini's machine, I'm just saying.   A major departure from their previous record, "Underground", instead of  psych fuzz, we get a laid back funk album. Supposedly, this album was used for some Italian television sports broadcasts.  I have to say, the standout for me is the bass playing, it is so incredible, i couldn't imagine ever coming up with that kind of melodic and rhythmic magic.  The drums for both Braen's Machine albums are very distinct, super compressed and driving, i really dig it.   So as "Underground" just melts my brain, this album just makes me feel very happy, and i'll take some happiness any day.
